The Students’ Union Government (SUG) President of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) is James Iyanuoluwa Adio (popularly known as Comrade Adio).
However, his administration is currently facing a major crisis. On June 17, 2026, the university management officially suspended him over serious allegations of illegal student extortion.
The Extortion Controversy Explained
The suspension followed a swift investigation by a panel set up by the university’s management to look into unauthorized fee collections targeting freshers.
-
The Illegal Levy: First-year (100-level) students were reportedly being charged an unauthorized ₦1,000 fee for hands-on practical classes.
-
The Personal Account Link: In an official statement released by FUOYE’s Registrar, Mufutau Ibrahim, the investigation committee found that ₦700,000 of the illicitly collected student funds had been transferred directly into the personal bank account of the SUG President.
Co-Officials Suspended
The crackdown also swept up two senior members of the university staff who were allegedly working in tandem with the scheme:
-
Mr. Olanrewaju Patrick Ogunjobi – Director of the Directorate of Educational Technology, Innovation and Entrepreneurship (accused of authorizing the collection without Senate approval).
-
Dr. Banji Rildwan Olaleye – Deputy Dean of Student Affairs and Support Services (accused of facilitating the collection).
Because the investigation is still ongoing to determine final disciplinary actions, Adio has been barred from performing his official duties as the SUG leader on campus.
