Shocking Crime in Levittown, Pennsylvania
In a case that has gripped the nation, Justin Mohn, a 33-year-old from Levittown, Pennsylvania, was sentenced to life in prison without parole on July 11, 2025, for the brutal murder and decapitation of his father, Michael Mohn, in January 2024. The shocking crime, followed by Mohn’s posting of a graphic 14-minute video on YouTube displaying his father’s severed head, has drawn widespread attention. The full video, which was removed from YouTube but remains a focal point of the case, can be accessed here for those seeking to understand the chilling details of this tragedy.
The Crime and Its Aftermath
Justin Mohn was convicted of first-degree murder, second-degree murder, terrorism, and other charges after a four-day bench trial before Bucks County Judge Stephen Corr. On January 30, 2024, Mohn fatally shot his father, a respected 68-year-old engineer with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, in their Middletown Township home. Using a knife and machete, he decapitated his father and uploaded a video to YouTube, where he ranted about anti-government conspiracies, immigration, and other political grievances while displaying the severed head. The video, which garnered thousands of views before its removal, was played in court, shocking attendees and sparking national outrage.
After the murder, Mohn fled to Fort Indiantown Gap, a National Guard training facility, where he scaled a barbed-wire fence in an apparent attempt to mobilize others for a violent uprising against the U.S. government. He was arrested later that day. Prosecutors presented evidence of Mohn’s premeditation, including his online searches for gun purchases, bomb-making materials, and bullet penetration of skulls, indicating he had been planning violence for years.
Evidence included letters Mohn wrote from prison to politicians and media figures, confessing to the crime and reiterating his extremist views. His mother, Denice Mohn, testified about finding her husband’s body in a bathroom and noted that police had previously warned Justin about his inflammatory online posts. Despite his parents’ financial and emotional support, Mohn’s actions revealed a deep-seated obsession with conspiracy theories and anti-government rhetoric.
Victim Impact and Sentencing
Michael Mohn was remembered in court as a loving husband and father, known for his humility, humor, and passions for reading, exercising, and playing the guitar. Victim impact statements from his wife and children highlighted the profound loss felt by the family, who had supported Justin despite his struggles with unemployment and mental health. Judge Corr, in sentencing Mohn to two consecutive life sentences for the murder counts, plus up to 40 years for additional charges, described the act as unimaginable, noting the unconditional love Mohn’s family had shown him.
